Esiste un uomo di cinema che è passato attraverso ciò' che non è essenziale. Senza lasciarsi scalfire: qualcuno che pare nemmeno essersi accorto quanto il cinema sia anche, forse soprattutto spettacolo. Il più il più delle volte deteriore,

Ermanno Olmi scrive piano, con la sua cinepresa, una volta ogni tre o quattro anni,: non è stato di conseguenza toccato dal contagio. Quello imposto da tutti noi che paghiamo un biglietto per assistere a certi modelli di comportamento, a certe formule, ad un certo modo di vedere una vita che sempre di più si allontana dalla vita.

Olmi abitava a Milano. Ed è lì che ha girato IL POSTO, frugando nella vita convulsa della grande città, alla ricerca di quelle persone, di quei fatti, che avessero ancora un significato antico, vicino a ognuno di noi.

Poi, Olmi si è accorto di non poter più abitare in una città «nella quale si può girare con le mani in tasca». Ed è andato ad Asiago. Ha ritrovato in un cassetto i primi scritti di cinema, quelli di vent'anni fa, le memorie, i racconti di vita contadina di suo nonno. E' risalito allora alle origini, nostre e dei personaggi de IL POSTO, A quando si viveva ancora in contatto con la natura, sul ritmo scandito dalla luce del giorno e dall'avvicendarsi delle stagioni.

Un intimismo descrittivo di rara efficacia. Per molti che ricorderanno la verità, la semplicità, la grande delicatezza della vicenda del ragazzo milanese, alla ricerca del suo posticino al sole.

Ermanno Olmi writes softly, with his camera, once every three or four years,: he has consequently not been touched by contagion. The one imposed by all of us who pay a ticket to see certain models of behaviour, certain formulas, a certain way of seeing a life that is increasingly distancing itself from life.

Olmi lived in Milan. And it was there that he filmed IL POSTO, rummaging through the convulsive life of the big city, looking for those people, those facts, that still had an ancient meaning, close to each one of us.

Then Olmi realised he could no longer live in a city "where you can walk around with your hands in your pockets". So he went to Asiago. In a drawer, he found his first writings on cinema, those of twenty years ago, his grandfather's memories and stories of rural life. He then went back to our origins, and those of the characters in IL POSTO, to when people still lived in contact with nature, with the rhythm marked by daylight and the changing of the seasons.

A descriptive intimism of rare effectiveness. For many who will remember the truth, the simplicity, the great delicacy of the story of the boy from Milan, in search of his little place in the sun.
