Non aspettatevi stravolgimenti, è sempre quello il cinema di Stéphane Brizé. Dietro alla straordinaria evidenza dell’attore traspare allora ad ogni istante l’emozione, la melanconia dell’autore. Al dramma politico e sociale si accosta quello del privato che si va consumando. In un equilibrio che da formale si fa morale, in una verosimiglianza dagli echi documentaristi, con un cast amatoriale che incornicia il  magistrale duetto dei due protagonisti, nell'esigenza di una struttura che si fa progressivamente sempre piìù  significativa.
