Only a few months have passed since The Last Duel, a more than solid illustration of the last duel to the death authorised in France in 1386. A nice surprise, then, this sortie of another feature from the traditional drawer bottom by an 84-year-old filmmaker; but one that gradually sags over the course of its 158 minutes.
Ridley Scott has made almost thirty features, some of which can be labelled masterpieces, from Alien to Blade Runner, Thelma & Louise and Gladiator. This will not be repeated with House of Gucci despite its enticing ingredients: from a rampant Lady Gaga to the exhausted Al Pacino, the inconsistent Adam Driver, plus Salma Hayek and Jeremy Irons. They are all summoned to the discontinuous and only discreetly glamorous re-enactment of two generations of the famous fashion house. And the tragic epilogue we know.
